Skip Avira’s Free Antivirus reboot request on updates

If you’re using Avira’s Free antivirus and are a mad computer user like me that never reboots his computer (unless something blows up), you might have noticed that Avira periodically updates its program (beside the virus definitions) and asks for a system restart to complete this.

Well, the computer restart isn’t as necessary as it appears, but restarting Avira is indeed the only option for the program to update itself.

1. Disable Avira’s own processes protection avira0
2. Stop Avira’s 2 services via Service Manager  avira1
3. Terminate Avira’s tray agent via Task Manager  avira2
4. Delete the C:\Users\All Users\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\CONFIG\restartpending.txt file which Avira uses to know it is awaiting a restart.  avira3
5. Start Avira’s 2 services back up
6. Run Avira’s tray agent: from C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\avgnt.exe

All done.
